Longhorn Life Sciences Inc. (LLS) is a MedTech venture led by a strong and diverse team of scientists, clinicians, and entrepreneurs at UT Austin and MD Anderson. Our mission is to develop needs-driven medical technology to improve patient outcomes and experiences.
Factors including an aging worldwide population, rising prevalence of risk factors like diabetes, and a shift towards pay-for-performance insurance policies drive the growing need for improved wound care technologies. Breast cancer patients encounter a heightened SSI risk (18%), often requiring implant removal that causes treatment setbacks and a worsened prognosis.
Longhorn Life Sciences Inc. (LLS) is developing “iDetect”, a wound monitoring system to remotely track infection progression. iDetect will provide clinicians and patients with an early warning of infections to enable proactive interventions. Early SSI detection will improve patient outcomes, reduce healthcare cost-burden, and increase wound management throughput for hospital systems.
LLS has raised $200,000 of non-dilutive funding from various pitch competitions and grant opportunities. LLS has conducted 140 customer discovery interviews with surgeons, nurses, patients, and hospital purchasing agents to validate the commercialization strategy. LLS has filed two patents for iDetect with the University of Texas at Austin.
