About Circuit

We are leveraging the concept of dopamine to increase player engagement and retention. Dopamine is a chemical in the brain that motivates behavior by rewarding us when we experience something pleasurable. In gaming, dopamine is released both from reward-based mechanics (like achieving goals) and social interactions (like collaborating with teammates or receiving praise). Our AI algorithm focuses on maximizing social dopamine, which is more sustainable and impactful for long-term engagement.

By matching players based on social compatibility, the system ensures players are paired with those who enhance their social experience, leading to better bonds and increased retention. Unlike traditional matchmaking systems that prioritize skill level alone, our algorithm gradually improves match quality over time, pairing the same compatible players repeatedly to build connections. This approach creates a more sustainable dopamine cycle, as players develop a tolerance to reward-based dopamine but continue to respond positively to social interactions.

Problem statement

As players receive repeated reward-based dopamine spikes, their tonic (baseline) dopamine levels gradually decrease over time, similar to building drug tolerance. To maintain the same level of engagement, games must continually provide larger rewards, creating an unsustainable cycle where "the rewards games provide must get larger." When games can't deliver the increasing dopamine rush players expect, players simply switch to new games that temporarily restore that feeling, creating high churn rates across the industry.
